NCC to unveil plan to produce many Bill Gates in Nigeria – Board Chairman

ABUJA – Chairman of Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC board, Sen. Olabiyi Durojaiye says the Commission will soon unveil a strategy that would enable Nigeria leverage the ongoing digital revolution to produce many Bill Gates in the country.

The Chairman dropped the hint yesterday while addressing staff of the Commission during their 2017 Thanksgiving and Carol Service organized by the Christian Fellowship at the Commission’s headquarters, Abuja.

He said the plan was designed make Nigerian youths participate in the digital revolution going on in the information and Communications technology sector and come up with innovative products and services that would raise their economic status and also rob off on the nation’s GDP growth.

He noted that too many Nigerian youths are wasting away with numerous talents to challenge Bill Gate and other technology billionaires, but have remained untapped due to lack of exposure to research and innovation.

He assured that the Commission through its strategy would train them in research to bale to invent innovative technology products and service of global standard.

‘‘It is a tradition in the Commission to celebrate at the end of every year and because at Christmas time people rejoice.

‘‘We are celebrating because we are still afloat as a Commission and we are working and are seeing results of what we are doing. We hope to work more in the coming years.

‘‘We have a plan that will make the youths of this country seize the opportunity provided by the digital revolution to innovate. We want Nigerian them to participate actively in the global digital revolution going on in the telecommunication sector.

The Chairman, who cited his recent appointment as a classical example, narrated his experience with President Buhari, whom he said assigned a national assignment to him in 1983 which he delivered without blemish, urged them not to compromise integrity and hard work if they hope to recognized and receive bigger reward in future.

‘‘The cardinal point of the President Mohammadu Buhari’s administration is the fight against corruption. It was upon that basis that he appointed to this job last year and it is necessary for me to tell those under my watch.

‘‘That what helped me as a younger man was diligent and integrity, hard work and honesty. It helps, even when you have forgotten it, you will be called upon and honoured. That was what happened to me. It is my experience and I want them to benefit from it as they continue to serve Nigeria in NCC.’’

On his part, the Commission’s Secretary, Mr. Felix Adeoye said the thanksgiving programme was an annual event meant for the staff of the NCC to express gratitude to God for his mercies and seeing them through the whole year.

‘‘At the end of the year, it is always nice and a good thing to say thank you Lord, knowing full well that we are not the only ones available to be blessed. Many had gone, others in hospitals, if you started the year well, and ended it well, you should be able to remember that somebody sustains us. You need to go back and say thank you.’’

The event featured NCC Choir carol ministration, drama ministration and scriptural readings.

The highlight was thanksgiving offering and cutting of cake by all members of the NCC Christian fellowship.
